Advantages, disadvantages and applications of in mold labeling (Part 2)
4 Using in mold labeling can improve production efficiency
from the perspective of cost, it is very beneficial to connect several functions together, because it can eliminate single functions, transportation and intermediate storage. The in mold labeling process combines the operation of pasting labels with the blow molding or injection molding process, and the whole process adopts automatic operation, which makes it more clean and hygienic. Plastic products do not need to be processed after forming, and there is no need to add labeling equipment and labeling workers like self-adhesive labels, so it can save production links, save labor and improve efficiency; It can also greatly reduce the secondary pollution caused by self-adhesive labels on bottles, and achieve the perfect combination of safety and multi efficiency. The label is embedded in the side wall of the plastic container, which can strengthen the side wall of the container and increase the strength of the side wall to 120%; The amount of plastic in the container is reduced because the in mold label replaces the same amount of plastic
if the material of the in mold label is the same as that of the plastic container, it can be recycled after crushing. Compared with the self-adhesive label, it saves the process of cleaning the label and removing the residual adhesive. Shandong innovation group only makes the conventional aluminum alloy material, which is convenient for recycling and low cost
III. disadvantages of in mold labeling
although in mold labeling has the above advantages, it also has shortcomings in practical application, mainly:
1 Large investment. Adopting in mold labeling requires changing the production process and changing the mold, and special devices need to be added, including: a label box used to hold the punched label; An automatic device that picks up the label from the label box and inserts it into the open mold synchronously with the machine movement; It is used to help set the label. Professor Zhao Qiang and deputy chief physician Ye Xiaofeng of the research group and Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University work together until the thermoplastics contact the equipment at the back of the label, such as the real air port or electrostatic generator. The investment in these equipment is also very high
2. In mold labeling is more suitable for mass production. Only when a certain amount is achieved, the cost can be moderately reduced. Every time you change the mold or automatic device, you need to spend a longer debugging time and carry out fine debugging to ensure the adhesion, positioning and appearance of the label. This consumes labor time and increases waste. Frequent changes in equipment will reduce the cost saving advantages of in mold labeling. The longer the in mold labeling machine starts, the more stable the production cost and quality can be ensured, and the better the benefit of the enterprise will be. Therefore, in mold labeling has the highest cost performance for the mass production of the same plastic products
3. Poor flexibility. Traditional labels are usually pasted on the surface of containers through adhesives, which has certain flexibility. When the product sales are poor, if traditional labels are used, only some labels will be wasted, and the container can still be used; If you are not satisfied with the shape of the container, you can only change the container, and the label can continue to be used. In this case, if in mold labeling is adopted, it is likely to cause double waste of containers and labels, which can no longer be used for other products
IV. application of in mold labeling
in mold labeling technology has been popular in some foreign countries for many years, and its label making and labeling technology have developed relatively mature. In mold labeling products have created a miracle in the history of world packaging, maintaining an astonishing annual growth rate of 20% for nearly 20 consecutive years (1984-2000). In Europe and the United States, the proportion of in mold labels used in container labels is about 12% to 15%
in mold labeling containers can be roughly divided into two systems in the world. In North America, 95% of in mold labeled containers are blow molded. Daily chemicals, liquid detergents, clothing softeners, and sometimes inhaled by hydraulic pumps. Personal care and hair care packaging containers are mainly blow molded. It is also well used in a small range of durable products, such as toys and in mold labeling. In Europe, 80% of in mold labeled containers are injection molded. Injection molding products are mostly used in various dairy products packaging, such as ice cream, milk cool, cream and so on. These products are considered to be high-end products in Europe, so they can bear the slightly higher cost of in mold labeling. In mold labeling is also used on some products that require durability, such as recycled beer boxes
but it is worth noting that although in mold labeling has been developing continuously in the past 20 years, its future will not be smooth, mainly because some of its defects offset the benefits brought by new applications. One example is the mediocre development of in mold labeling in the United States in the past two years. S. C. end users of Johnson & Johnson's cleaning products and P & G's "Pantene" hair care products, the two long-term in mold labels, have re selected self-adhesive labels. In mold labeling began in the era of the prevalence of long edition printing. At that time, the product consumption was large, the market had not been subdivided, and the market of personalized verification once a year and small batch demand had not yet formed. In the process of pursuing more market share, consumer goods manufacturers are gradually turning to smaller and smaller customer groups. This situation has led to the small batch production of more products, so that in mold labeling can not play its advantages, and self-adhesive labels are more economical and faster in the case of small batch production
in China, the application of in mold labeling is a matter of recent years, but it has been recognized by industry insiders, and has led the new trend of packaging, and is being promoted and applied in some fields
since 2000, the blow molding in mold labeling process has been popularized in China, and its in mold labeling product packaging has a good effect once it is on the market. In the past two years, the internal labeling process of injection mold has also been used in China. However, due to its more complex process equipment and technology than the internal labeling of blow mold, almost all the technical equipment depends on imports, and the investment is too large, which limits the promotion and application in China
at present, the manufacturers using in mold labeled containers in China are mainly multinational companies and large private enterprises in China, focusing on the lubricant, daily chemical products, medicine and food industries, forming a pattern in which the northern in mold label market is dominated by the lubricant industry and the southern in mold label market is dominated by the daily chemical industry. However, in the high-end cosmetics market, we have not seen the use of in mold labeling. This is mainly due to the small volume of plastic bottles used in high-end cosmetics, so the mold is small, and it is difficult for the manipulator to control the labeling position in the labeling process in the mold
in mold labeling is a new labeling technology with great potential, but it is still a very new concept and technology in China. Its development is still in its infancy and has not yet entered the stage of large-scale application. Its market size is only 2% of the existing market in the United States. There are still many fields waiting to be developed, but at present, many manufacturers are holding a wait-and-see attitude. This is mainly due to the relatively expensive equipment investment, the in mold label materials still rely on imports, and the high loss rate in the printing process, which leads to the high printing and processing cost of in mold labels at present, and it is difficult to ensure the economic benefits of enterprises. It will take some time to ensure that the products meet the requirements of all aspects, so that the labels are free of any defects and achieve corresponding economic benefits. Therefore, at present, enterprises should adopt a cautious attitude to make rational decisions and avoid blindly following the trend
